Spring Break Day Campers

Blogs, News from Detroit, The Latest

Greetings from Camp Restore Detroit! Last week, youth from Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Birmingham, MI spent two days serving in our community. They worked alongside many different community members cleaning up street corners, sidewalks, abandoned lots, and helping some of our neighbors. The campers worked with the Optimist Neighborhood Association and Elmdale Pride Block Club, who both work hard to make our community a cleaner and safer place to live.

After finishing one section of sidewalk, a community member drove by and said, “Thank you so much for helping to clean this up! This is my grandmother’s house and she has been in the hospital with Covid. Thank you!”

We are so thankful for the youth at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church for their willingness to take time out of their week to serve in Detroit. Hope grows when we come alongside each other and work together. God did big things through these youth and we can’t wait to serve together again someday!

We have so many more projects like these ones just waiting for volunteers. If you are interested in serving for a day, or even over the course of a few days, contact Elizabeth Parrish at [email protected]!
