September 28, 2012-
The early-response stage is now over following Hurricane Isaac, which means volunteers are getting to the heart of helping families with mucking, gutting, and beginning the rebuilding process. The following is a report of this week’s work from Kathy Wendling, followed by photos:
This week Paul and Audrey Alfonso met the members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Warwick, NY and what a meeting it was!
The Alfonso’s received roughly 12 feet of water in their Braithwaite home during Hurricane Issac. A return group to Camp Restore, the Good Shepherd mission team worked with Paul and Audrey mucking out their dream house. As each muck filled wheelbarrow rolled out, the  Alfonsos caught a glimpse of returning to their lives with their three children.
As someone who has experienced this devastation, it is hard to express the powerful witness of God through His servants. While your material world has been destroyed, the presence of God’s love provides hope.
This young family will thrive again one day with the physical and spiritual support of the Family of Christ. Please consider sharing your God-given time and talents with the families in need in our community.
Yours in Christ,
Kathy Wendling
