March 15, 2013- Thanks to volunteers who gave time and money for materials, we’ve been able to restore Otha’s house this winter, with work including a new roof, siding, electric, plumbing with a handicap shower, window, subfloor, insulation, drywall, painting, doors, floor tile, kitchen cabinets and finally a ramp.

As I intentionally read my Bible today, the book of Philippians, I am fondly reminded of Betty from Wisconsin. She came down a few weeks ago with her church to spend time serving at the St. Bernard Community Center and gutting a house in Braithwaite.


Stilt Houses in St. Bernard

Walt told me too of a couple whose house is on stilts – 17 feet off the ground. They lost their stairs. Since the couple is in their 80s they have a couple of different ways to get up to the house. There is a hand pulled elevator, and there is a ladder.
