To anyone else this house may look abandoned and hopeless. To us at Camp Restore Detroit, this house embodies many hopes, dreams, and plans. This summer we were so blessed to receive a grant from the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) to purchase and renovate this house and another house near Camp Restore Detroit. The house pictured above is lovingly named the “White House.” We are so excited to start working on the house and dreaming about the opportunities we will have to share God’s love with our community because of this building.
Right now the White House looks like a mess. However, we know our amazing God specializes in taking messes and making them beautiful again. With God’s guidance, we plan to turn the White House into a welcoming area for our community. We hope to start art programs, tutoring programs, financial classes, and more as we partner with our community to use this space for the benefit of all. Ultimately, we pray all who enter this house will know God’s saving love for them.
That sounds amazing! How can I help?
Obviously we cannot tackle this project alone, nor do we want to! We have a team scheduled to come at the end of August to clear the debris from around the house and the overgrown plants on the lot. We are forming a construction team, but still need lots of help! Electricians, plumbers, roofers, painters, builders… we need you! This is a huge project and it is going to take lots of willing hearts and hands to complete. If you are willing to volunteer, please email us at [email protected] or call us at 313.530.3522.
If construction isn’t your strength, don’t worry, there are still other ways you can help! Once the White House is complete, we can start programming! We will need volunteers to help us run and lead the programs. If this sounds of interest to you, please email [email protected].
Prayer Requests
Most importantly, we need lots of prayer! Please pray for:
- God’s guidance as we create plans for the design and layout
- the right people to help with construction
- the love of God to be evident to each person who enters the White House
- partnership with our community on this project
- thanksgiving for the opportunity we have to share God’s love to our community through the White House
