August 27, 2013- Summer still sizzles here in New Orleans, but there's a breeze coming in off Lake Pontchartrain making the air less stifling. School is back in session and families gather over cereal bowls in the morning before rushing off to work and school. "Busy" doesn't seem to justify how hectic life is again.
Camp is home to roughly 250 eager volunteers this week—the youngest of whom is a seven year old boy! Even at 6:00 am this morning, coffee was brewing and volunteers moved about the sanctuary preparing for the day. Breakfast is crazy as always with pb&j’s being made and work assignments are being doled out to leaders while bowls of oatmeal were dusted with brown sugar and cinnamon.
May 23, 2013- For as long as I can remember, the travel bug ruled my family. Hailing from the great land of Texas, plenty of tourist travel destinations were a day’s drive away. Each summer my parents uncovered some new, fascinating place for our family to visit. Moving away for college failed to quell my need for travel. Naturally, when an internship opportunity to spend two months in unexplored New Orleans came up, I snatched it.
