Trinity-Claiborne: Six Months of Progress

On Easter Sunday 2012, Trinity-Claiborne in the Lower Ninth Ward was rededicated after a two-year restoration effort. Six months later, Trinity is bustling with activity with several local nonprofit partners making use of the facility throughout the week in service to the community.

As I intentionally read my Bible today, the book of Philippians, I am fondly reminded of Betty from Wisconsin. She came down a few weeks ago with her church to spend time serving at the St. Bernard Community Center and gutting a house in Braithwaite.

Walt told me too of a couple whose house is on stilts – 17 feet off the ground. They lost their stairs. Since the couple is in their 80s they have a couple of different ways to get up to the house. There is a hand pulled elevator, and there is a ladder.

Two weeks after Hurricane Isaac came ashore, a clearer picture is emerging of the damage left in its wake. In Braithwaite, LA, south of St. Bernard Parish, Kathy Wendling and Lois Sullivan recently met with several affected families connected to RAI through the Spirit of Hope program.
