Seeing Green
July 13th, 2012 by admin in Photo Galleries, The LatestCamp Interns Allison, AJ and Elizabeth have been all over the place this summer with our volunteer groups working in partnership with other New Orleans nonprofits. This gallery is full of urban farming – one of our fastest-growing types of projects, no pun intended! :)
- Volunteers playing Mafia on lunch break at the Blair Grocery school urban farm.
- “Buddy” taking a big yawn.
- Urban farming is taking off in New Orleans, especially in the Lower Ninth Ward.
- ARC is another organization that’s developing an urban farm.
- Groups harvest fruits and vegetables that ARC then sells at a farmers market.
- Groups also work to do weeding, planting and watering.
- Pyramid House is a transitional housing facility for homeless people coming off the streets. They are in the process of renovating rooms.
- Our volunteers helped by ripping out carpet, repairing the floors and then painting both the floors and the walls.
- St. Mary’s Academy, down Chef Menteur from Camp Restore, is also developing a community garden.
- Our volunteers did weeding, digging ditches, and making new rows for future planting.
