Set Upon The Rock

Blogs, The Latest

This guest post is from Allison, one of our interns from Concordia University-Texas this summer!

In my first two weeks here at Camp Restore, I’ve seen desolation but I’ve also seen restoration.   It is amazing that seven years after Hurricane Katrina, there is still widespread destruction.  But, because of organizations like Camp Restore, the city is slowly being rebuilt and restored.

After reflecting on what I’ve seen and the people I’ve met, Psalm 40: 1-2 comes to mind.

1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.

I especially like where this verse says that God lifts us out of the muck and mire and sets us on a firm foundation.  These verses fit perfectly with what I’ve seen here in New Orleans.  When the water came, it brought with it mud and muck, in some cases, even knocking houses off their foundations.  People needed a firm place to stand.  And God provides that solid rock.  Even in the midst of hurricanes, destruction and pure chaos, God is with us, offering us shelter in His love.

As work continues to be done here, we need to remember that God has set our feet upon the rock and given us a firm place to stand.  Nobody said it would be easy or that work would still need be done after seven years, but we need to remember:  “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

While restoring New Orleans may seen like an impossible task, here at Camp Restore we believe that “nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

In Christ,
Allison – Summer Intern
