Fundraisers

Whether you’re planning to fundraise to help pay for the cost of your trip to New Orleans or looking to raise extra funds for materials to use on construction projects, here are some ideas to help you get started!

Car Wash

Throw a car wash – it’s tried and true, especially if you live in an area that gets lots of snow and winter grime buildup. Spring can work even better than summer!

Employer-Matching

Many companies offer gift-matching and/or will make a donation in return for your volunteer service. One-to-one gift-matching and donations of up to $500 for a week’s worth of volunteer service are common! Do you know what your employer offers?

Thrivent

If you are a Thrivent Member, there are a number of options to help us raise funds through Thrivent!

New Orleans Night

Hold a New Orleans Night (sell tickets, feature your favorite New Orleans cuisine and music, and throw in some beads for good measure!) You could even serve danger dogs (we’ll put you in touch with the volunteers who came up with that one, if you dare).

Pastor-napping

One youth group decided to “Pastor-nap” their pastor as a fundraising project. On a Friday afternoon, the  Teenage Terrorists came in and kidnapped their pastor. They had a video team on hand and TT taped the invasion leading to the ransom of the pastor for only $2,000. “If you give us the money, you get him back. If you don’t give us the money, you still get him back.”

On Sunday morning, the Pastor was still no place in sight. The service went on as planned with the teenagers leading the service. Then, a group of teens dressed in black quietly entered the service.

The music stopped suddenly and the tape was shown. The leaders presented their own part of the video by being the News Telecasters. As the service ended, so did the pastor-nap. The “terrorists” stood at the doors with their bags to collect the $2,000 ransom.

Ask For Donations

Of all the ways to raise money, the most effective is still simply to ask those close to you if they’d like to make an impact through you! Share the story of your plans to come and serve in New Orleans with your family, school, church, Facebook friends and/or neighbors, and ask them to consider supporting your mission! The worst thing that can happen is they’ll say no, in which case you can talk about something else.

Not “Goodbye” but “Hope to See You Again…”

May 13, 2013- It seems like yesterday that I was moving to New Orleans with a gambit of emotions when thinking of what was to come in my life. A little over five years ago I got trapped by New Orleans’ love when it wrapped its arms around me and didn’t let go.
