Ways to help with recent disasters
May 27, 2011-
As we maintain our mission focus of restoring faith, home and community in the Greater New Orleans area, we want to lift up a number of organizations and people that are working hard to respond to disasters in other parts of the country. Whether it’s on the Gulf Coast or in the Midwest, volunteering in the community or disaster response, at home or far away, it is a blessing to see people getting out and loving their neighbors in need.
The Southern District of the LCMS is posting regular updates on needs and opportunities for donation support for communities hit in the Alabama tornado outbreak. Please visit www.southernlcms.org to find out more. Pastor Ed Brashier, a former camp director at Camp Restore and now at St. John Lutheran Church in Gardendale, AL, is coordinating volunteers for cleanup and recovery efforts for three sites in Gardendale, Decatur and Tuscaloosa, AL. To inquire about opportunities to volunteer or other ways to help, please call 205-631-2355.
Both Orphan Grain Train and Lutheran Church Charities are involved with relief efforts and delivering supplies to Alabama and now Joplin, MO.
We encourage and thank everyone who has, is and will be volunteering to serve others in need.
