Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, an EF3 tornado touched down in New Orleans East and left several miles of destruction in its wake as it followed Chef Menteur Hwy to the east, passing within three blocks of Camp Restore – New Orleans.
Camp Restore staff are presently working with city officials and fellow New Orleans nonprofits in responding; we are primarily working to host volunteer groups who are working with SBP, HandsOn New Orleans and other organizations helping with cleanup and debris-removal. As the long-term recovery begins, we will continue evaluating needs and further opportunities to coordinate rebuilding efforts.
If you were affected by the tornado and need assistance, please contact us here and we will follow up with you as soon as possible (the power outage is impacting our facility at the moment).
Donations are being accepted online and by mail; please enter “New Orleans East Tornado Relief” in the comments field or check memo line.
Please mail checks to: Camp Restore – New Orleans, 9301 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA 70127.
