The Joy of Volunteering Together

Blogs, The Latest

On Friday, February 14, 2014 I spent my day volunteering with the students of KIPP Leadership Primary and some very generous players of the National Basketball Association.

It was wonderful to be able to work with the future scholars of the city I love so much and give them a little beauty to enjoy on the playground. I was in charge of painting one of the six mural boards that would adorn the new playground donated to the school by the NBA.

The teachers, families, neighbors, NBA players, and Camp Restore volunteers came together to build a playground. It was so rewarding to be able to share what I’ve learned from the selfless volunteers that enter the doors of Camp Restore each week, and give their time to make a better New Orleans.

I look forward to continuing to help rebuild my community in every way possible. Here are a few pictures of everyone hard at work, including Mr. Smith, the Primary Grade School Principal.
