Hurricane Isaac Response

September 5th, 2012 by admin in News from NOLA, The Latest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Camp Restore Responds to Hurricane Isaac

September 5, 2012 – New Orleans, La.

Camp Restore is inviting short-term volunteer groups to join in the recovery effort following Hurricane Isaac. Volunteers groups of all ages high-school and up are requested, and specific skills are not required. Groups may be booked at www.camprestore.org or by phone, 504-242-2636.

Early-response teams from Lutheran Church Charities and Shepherd’s Heart Ministries are currently at Camp Restore and are working on tree-cutting and cleanup throughout the area. We expect volunteer numbers to grow as we near the end of the year, with our peak season stretching from December through July.

Our housing case specialist, Lois Sullivan, is fielding a large number of calls and developing a significant list of homeowners in need of restoration help, and Kathy Wendling is coordinating with our community partners to assess and respond to needs. We expect our long-term Isaac recovery work projects to resemble our continuing Katrina recovery efforts – rebuilding family homes in Braithwaite (Plaquemines Parish), LaPlace (St. John the Baptist Parish), and Slidell (St. Tammany Parish), outlying communities around New Orleans.

It is already clear that many residents, especially families and senior citizens, will have significant financial challenges recovering, with many insurance carriers raising deductibles for named storms. We are requesting donations for “Hurricane Isaac Relief” at this time. Checks may be mailed to Camp Restore, 9301 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA 70127. Gifts may also be given our Online Giving Page here.
