Hurricane Isaac has passed and New Orleans’ flood protection has performed to design. The majority of damage in the city is related to trees and power lines. Neighboring communities, however, such as Braithewaite, Slidell and LaPlace, have seen varying degrees of flooding, some of which is still playing out.
Camp Restore is up and running with power, and the Camp staff is in the midst of planning and coordinating our short-term response, in partnership with Southern District LCMS Disaster Response Coordinator Ed Brashier and Lutheran Church Charities.
We are working to establish an understanding of the emerging needs following Isaac, and the related opportunities for volunteer service to help those in need. In addition to our existing home-restoration and community-service projects, there will be short-term storm cleanup work as well as anticipated gutting and rebuilding homes in Braithewaite and LaPlace.
We are currently accepting donations for Hurricane Isaac Response through our Online Donation Page, and by mail to Camp Restore, 9301 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA, 70127. Please make checks payable to Camp Restore, and note your gifts as “Hurricane Isaac Response.”
