The Hands Who’ve Helped

Isn’t it amazing what we can achieve when we come together? I always think two is better than one, a family is more powerful than an individual, and (as I often say around the office) team work makes the dream work.

I was listening to a song by Jack Johnson and Ben Harper recently called ‘With My Own Two Hands’. Here is a blurb of the lyrics
.

I can change the world
With my own two hands
Make it a better place
With my own two hands
Make it a kinder place
With my own two hands

I am not sure when I first heard this song but over the past 5 years that I have been lucky enough to call New Orleans home, I have come to really appreciate it whenever I hear it. The lyrics ring true when I think about the amount of work that has been done with the hands of volunteers from all over the world.

To think that just within the past year Camp Restore hosted over 3,000 volunteers—just multiply that by the 7 years that have passed since Katrina, the multitude of rebuilding organizations in this city and along the Gulf Coast, the volunteers that have came once and then stayed to help, the amount of work that YOU have done. It is incredible the hands that have helped change this city, made it a better place, a kinder place.

As the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, I encourage you to use your hands to help others. What you may think is a tiny act of service can end up changing the world of those around you.
